PCB Requires Fitness Tests in Domestic Cricket; Kirsten and Gillespie joins Selection Committee

The PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has proposed a series of recommendations to improve the Quality of cricket in the country which includes mandatory Fitness Tests in Domestic cricket.

PCB Requires Fitness Tests in Domestic Cricket

The Proposal comes after the meeting with stakeholders, including men’s team whiteball coach Gary Kirsten, and Test coach Jason Gillespie. The meeting held at the National Cricket Academy discussed many suggestions for improving the sport, from the bottom level of the senior cricket team.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that there will be no tolerance for indiscipline and he warned against grouping in the national team. The decision comes after misconduct in Pakistan’s camp after the T20 World Cup 2024 failure.

It was reported that Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam were not working together throughout the campaign. The board also brought in mandatory fitness tests for players to be done once in three months, which will serve as the key criteria for the selection.

The Board also imposed players to take part in domestic cricket, hinting that NOCs would be issued only if those players were fit and to domestic cricket policies.

“There will be no compromise on discipline. There will be a zero-tolerance policy against players who violate discipline. There should be unity and consensus within the team. Grouping players will not be tolerated.”

“Management should take strict action on grouping. Disciplinary players will not have a place in the team. Do not accept my recommendation about any player for breach of discipline,” said Mohsin Naqvi in a PCB statement.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has confirmed that Jason and Gary Kirsten were added to the selection committee. This comes after the Pakistan Cricket Board sacking Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were sacked from the selection committee.

“Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie are fully empowered. I have full confidence in them. Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie have been given a free hand. Hope both will give the best results,” Naqvi said.

Babar Azam who was sacked from Captaincy after the side failed in the ODI World Cup in India last year, has been renamed as the captain before the T20 World Cup 2024 but failed to bring significant results in the USA and West Indies. They failed to qualify for Super 8s after suffering a defeat in the matches against USA and arch-rivals India.

Pakistan hasn’t played any international cricket since the T20 World Cup campaign and will resume their actions from a two-match test series against Bangladesh in a two-test series starting on August 21.
