The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has removed Tim Nielsen from assistant coach ahead of the upcoming test series in South Africa.
The Pakistan board has decided not to extend Tim Nielsen’s contract and is said to be re-evaluating his position. Tim Nielsen who assumed the role of high-performance red-ball coach in August, had his short-term contract conclude after Pakistan toured Australia.
Despite his belief in potential extension and his belief in the progress made with the team, Nielsen was informed that has been removed from the role.
The men in green are currently engaging in a three-match T20I series followed by an ODI series in Pakistan tour of South Africa.
Meanwhile, Gillespie is reportedly considering his future with the team after the recent happening within the board.
The decision has made without prior consultation with Gillespie, has left the head coach deeply dissatisfied. Gillespie was particularly frustrated by the lack of communication, especially given that he had previously praised Nielsen’s coordination with players.
The incident happens after Gillespie’s roles and authority being diminshed over recent month. In October, he was removed from the selection panel and relegated to the position of a ‘matchday strategist’.
This follows a tren where PCB has been replacing overseas coaches with local ones, citing dissatisfaction with the time spent in Pakistan by foreign coaches.
Meanwhile, former coach Gary Kirstern has resigned from his head coach role in October. Aqib Javed, a member of the selection panel was appointed interim head coach of white-ball side untill ICC Champions Trophy.
