PCB Announces Pakistan Squad for West Indies Tests

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the ICC World Test Championship Tests for the West Indies tour of Pakistan 2025.

Shah Masood has been retained as captain while Saud Shakeel has been named as his deputy. “Off-spinner Sajid Khan and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed have been recalled to partner with left-arm spinner Noman Ali,” it said.

However, the squad also sees the exclusion of Saim Ayub who fractured his ankle during the South Africa series, and Abdullah Shafique, who prolonged slump in form, including three ducks in as many ODIs which stirred his omission.

“Openers Imamul Haq and Mohammad Huraira have also been brought back, replacing the injured Saim Ayub and the out-of-form Abdullah Shafique.”

“As part of workload management, the pace quartet of Aamir Jamal, Mohammad Abbas, Mir Hamza, and Naseem Shah has been rested,” the PCB stated in a media release.

“In their place, the selectors have retained Khurram Shahzad, recalled Mohammad Ali and included uncapped Kashif Ali.”

The selectors also replaced injured wk-batter Haseebullah with former Pakistan U19 and Shaheens captain Rohail Nazir.

The absence of Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah marks a significant shift from the start of Pakistan’s home season which began with optimism.

Meanwhile Rohail Nazir has been named as the backup wicketkeeper for Mohammad Rizwan replacing Haseebullah Khan, who sustained a had injury in South Africa.

The first match of the Pakistan-West Indies tests starting on January 15 at Multan.
