Ahead of the series, Pakistan rested their captain Babar Azam, along with Fakhar Zaman, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Rizwan and Shaheen Shah Afridi. PCB named Shadab Khan as the captain of the Pakistan cricket team for their Afghanistan tour.

Rehman is the head coach of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) team in domestic cricket and is the assistant coach of Multan Sultans in the ongoing eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League.
