PBKS vs MI DRS Controversy: Mumbai Indians who have already been fined INR 12 Lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate in their recent clash against Punjab Kings now hit with a new “DRS controversy”.
Though the incident was not yet officially reported, it was fans who fumed at this event involving MI head coach, Tim David and Pollard.
The incident took place in the final delivery of the 14th over bowled by Arshdeep Singh. Mumbai Indians who were forced to bat first scored 125 runs for 2 wickets at that stage.
While Suryakumar Yadav was batting at 63, Arshdeep Singh bowled a delivery which landed just wide of the outside off stump for which the onfield umpire remained silent. But MI’s head coach Mark Boucher reacted by signalling WIDE from the dugout and seemed to suggest the batters to take a review.
But the batters remained unnoticed but soon Kieron Pollard and MI batter Tim David joined the scene and suggested the batters to take review by signalling with their hands. This move was noticed by PBKS stand-in captain Sam Curran and the allrounder rushed to the onfield umpire regarding this.
In a move of surprise, the onfield umpire went for a review and granted Mumbai Indians a wide instead of enquiring about the conversation which was clearly caught by the broadcasters.
Here’s another DRS incident to note during the MI inning.
1. Arshdeep bowled a ball to Surya.
2. Umpire didn’t react.
3. MI head coach gestured to batters that it’s wide.
4. Batters avoided, but he made another gesture.
5. Sam was angry.
6. Sam complained to the umpire.

Soon the video went viral on social media and got tons of negative reviews from the cricket fans. Even some of the former cricketers were left shocked after the decision. Notably, none of them spoke about Mumbai’s dugout – on-field conversation, instead they threw their views on the WIDE decision.
“Seriously? He (batter) was already outside the off stump. I thought, the lined moved (as the batter moved). That’s touch and go,” commentator Murali Kartik said on-air when umpire Menon ruled the wide decision in favour of the MI batter.
Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody questions the umpiring with a Tweet.
This suggestion was aimed purely at trying to continue to improve our game.
Umpires, like players, have their strengths and weaknesses, human error is inevitable…. Specialists in specific roles why wouldn’t we?— Tom Moody (@TomMoodyCricket) April 19, 2024
