With India set to go into the field without the allrounder Hardik Pandya against England, the former cricketer Sarandeep recalls the skipper’s words before the World Cup 2023.
India’s pre-world Cup Fear ahead of England WC Clash
India is successful on the World Cup campaign winning all five matches they have played so far in the season. India has a major setback as the allrounder Hardik Pandya sustained an injury during the match against Bangladesh in the World Cup.
With his scans proved to be normal initially he was rested for the match against New Zealand. Despite his ankle sore has been reduced he was not able to play in the practice sessions. The NCA revealed that the all-rounder had a ligament tear Grade 1.
The swelling on his ankle has subsided but he hasn’t bowled yet and will be under medication for some time. While he was expected to play in the last two matches of the knockout stages, he underwent a test on Thursday.
With reference to medical reports, NCA has learned that Hardik Pandya had a Grade 1 Ligament tear in his ankle during the Bangladesh in Pune on October 19.
“The medical team under Nitin Patel is monitoring him at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. But the injury looks a bit more serious than what was first perceived.
It looks like he has suffered a minor ligament tear which usually takes at least two weeks to heal. The NCA will not release him before his injury heals. The medical team has communicated to the team management that they are hopeful of putting him back on the pitch soon,” a BCCI source told media.
With India scheduled to play against England, the skipper Rohit Sharma’s words before the World Cup have been recalled.
“While he did later admit to the drawback as part of the same query, Rohit’s words, if going by the two practice sessions India have had so far in Lucknow ahead of the league-stage match against England, are set to come true.
“There should be six bowling options with or without Hardik. Other teams have started to up their game. What if Bumrah has a bad day? Kuldeep got hit the other day but he bounced back. Teams have not been able to score 350 against us but it can happen.
“If you are not going to get a sixth bowler, then you will need someone like Kohli to chip in with two of three overs. India must plan for all scenarios and I am sure they are doing that,” Sarandeep told PTI.
India will be playing their next World Cup match against England on October 29 at Ekana Sports City, Lucknow.
