The pacer Hasan Ali suffered a fever last night but he is recovering well. He was sidelined and sat out on the training session on Thursday. He will be missing the side’s match against South Africa on Friday.

The PCB medical team has advised him to rest so he to recover fully before the remaining matches. In his absence, Mohammad Wasim will likely replace Ali in the playing 11.

The 22-year-old bowling allrounder has played 16 ODI matches and dismissed 24 wickets with bowling figures of 4/36 as his career best.

It will be a tough challenge against the powerhouse South Africa team on October 27. Pakistan has played five matches so far and they have victory in only two matches.

They suffered three consecutive defeats against India, Australia and Afghanistan.

Winning the toss, Pakistan chose to bat where Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq opened the innings while Naveen-ul-Haq opened the bowling attack. Shafique had a good start as he scored 58 runs on 75 deliveries and was dismissed by Noor Ahmad and Imam-ul-Haq was sent out by Azmatullah.

Babar Azam was impressive with his score of 74 runs on 92 deliveries and was dismissed by Noor Ahmad on the 42nd over of the innings. Pakistan scored 282 runs losing 7 wickets in their innings.

Afghanistan started their innings with a target of 283 runs where Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran opened the innings while Shaheen Afridi opened the bowling attack.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz had a good start as he scored 65 runs on 53 deliveries and was sent out by Shaheen Afridi. Ibrahim Zadran scored 87 runs on 113 deliveries and was dismissed by Hasan Ali.

Rahmat Shah smashed an unbeaten 77 runs while Hashmatullah Shahidi scored 48 runs on 45 deliveries. Afghanistan won the match by scoring 286 runs on the 49th over with 8 wickets in hand.

On the defeat, Misbah-ul-Haq and Shoaib Malik accused Babar Azam for Pakistan’s defeat against Afghanistan.

After the match, Pakistan legend Misbah-ul-Haq blamed Babar Azam’s captaincy saying, “We can see that whenever Haris Rauf is given the ball to bowl in the powerplay, he is struggling. He is low in confidence, he is leaking 18-20 runs in his first over.

We have spoken after the last match against Australia as well, about how New Zealand brought Mitchell Santner in the eighth or the ninth over. It is an attacking option since it is the last over of the powerplay, and batsmen try to take the risk. It is a gamble, you can take a wicket as well,” he said.

“It would have been good for Haris’s confidence if the captain would have given the ball after the powerplay when there are four fielders in the deep. Then he can bowl his bouncers.

If he is bowling short of length outside the off stump, he will have a sweeper cover. Now what’s happening is that he is getting hit four boundaries in the first over and he is done for the whole game.

“We know that Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran play the pace bowling well. If we could have brought the spinners early and forced them to attack, they could have got in trouble,” he concluded.

Pakistan will be playing against South Africa on October 27 at MA. Chidambaram Stadium.
