Pakistan Cricket Board has announced the captain of their team for the Asian Games which is scheduled to play in Hangzhou, China. Qasim Akram who led the Pakistan side in ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup 2022 will be leading the team for Asia Games.
PCB announces Pakistan Men’s Asian Games 2023 Squad
The Asian games will be set to be played between September 23 and October 8. The tournament will be played in T20 format. Pakistan has announced its 17-member squad for the Asian Games on Thursday.
The 20-year-old uncapped all-rounder Qasim Akram has played 20 first-class games and 40 T20 games in his journey. Omair Bin Yousuf is the vice-captain of the team.
Most of the players in the squad are picked on their performance in PSL 2023. Since the Asian Games overlap the dates of the ICC Men’s World Cup 2023, the players in the Asian Games will not participate in the Pinnacle event. Pakistan participated only once in the tournament in 2010, winning the bronze medal.
Arafat Minhas, Sufiyan Muqeem, Rohail Nazir, Jamal, Iqbal, Bin Yousuf, Akram, and Sahani have featured for Pakistan in the past.
The U-19 Pakistan A have played against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Australia recently and have won the ACC men’s Emerging Asia Cup defeating India in the finals.
India have also announced their squad for the Asian Games. India has named a squad led by Ruturaj Gaikwad for the Asian Games. The semi-finals of the tournament will take place on October 6th, while the final is scheduled to play on October 7.
