    Pakistan Emerging Asia Cup 2023 Squad; M Haris named as Captain

    Pakistan Emerging Asia Cup 2023 Squad will be led by Mohammad Haris, as they are scheduled to play against India on July 19.

    The Men’s Emerging Asia Cup 2023, is scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka from 14 to 23 July. The fifth edition of the Men’s emerging Asia Cup tournament will feature eight Asian teams, with seven of them representing the A teams of their respective countries.

    Pakistan A will have their first match against Nepal on July 14, following the matches against UAE on July 17. Pakistan will have their third match against their rivals India on July 19.

    Pakistan A being the defending champions grouped with India A, Nepal, and Sri Lanka A in Group A, while Group B included the countries like Afghanistan A, Bangladesh A, Oman, and United Arab Emirates.

    The top two sides from each group will meet in Semi-finals, followed by the final. Mohammed Haris who had represented Pakistan in five ODIs and nine T20Is, will lead Pakistan A for the first time.

    During the 2023 edition, a total of 15 games will be played between the participating eight Asian nations and will follow the 50-over format.

    Pakistan U23 is the current champion of the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup. Pakistan U23 won the 2019 edition by beating Bangladesh U23 in the final by 77 runs.

    In the past 4 seasons, Sri Lanka won a couple of times(2017, 2018) while India(2013 – inaugural edition) and Pakistan(2019) each won one time.

    Mohammad Haris (captain, wicketkeeper), Omair Bin Yousuf (vice-captain), Amad Butt, Arshad Iqbal, Haseebullah, Kamran Ghulam, Mehran Mumtaz, Mubasir Khan, Mohammad Wasim Jnr, Qasim Akram, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Shahnawaz Dahani, Sufiyan Muqeem and Tayyab Tahir.

    BCCI Announced India Squad for the tournament

    The Indian squad for this Emerging Asia Cup has been announced by BCCI on 4 July, and preparations are going as per plan. Yash Dhull, the country’s under-19 World Cup champion from 2022, will lead the squad. While Abhishek Sharma will act as his Vice – Captain.

    Following an outstanding last IPL season with Gujarat Titans, Tamil Nadu’s Sai Sudharshan has also been named to the team.  Pradosh Ranjan Paul, a colleague from his state, also located a space.

    India A will face UAE A to kick off their campaign on 13th July while On July 15, Pakistan A will be their opponent for the second round, and on July 18, Nepal will be the opponent for the final group stage encounter. The Semi-final of the tournament will be played on 21st july and the Final on 23rd

    Pakistan U23 currently holds the ACC Men’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup title. Pakistan U23 won the 2019 event by defeating Bangladesh U23 in the final by 77 runs. Sri Lanka has won twice in the last four seasons (2017, 2018). Whereas India has won once (2013 – inaugural event) and Pakistan has won once (2019).

    IND-PAK last Clash in Emerging Asia Cup 

    India suffered a defeat to arch-rivals Pakistan in the Emerging Asia Cup 2019 semi-finals. The defeat was unacceptable as it was a small margin of three runs where they tasted the defeat at Shere Bangla National Stadium.

    Pakistan scored 267-7 in 50 overs, giving a competitive score to India. After big collapse in the batting orders, India steadily raised the score to 211-4, but soon they were folded by Pakistan bowlers for 264-8 in 50 overs.

    After defeating the teams like Nepal, Bangladesh, and Hongkong, they were knocked out by Pakistan.

    In that fourth edition, Pakistan became the champions of the Emerging Asia Cup defeating Bangladesh by 77 runs.
