Pakistan Scripts Rare History in PAK vs NZ 1st Test 2022

The incident happened during the 1st Test of the New Zealand tour of Pakistan 2022. The first match of the 2-match Test series begins on December 26 at National Stadium, Karachi.

Winning the toss Pakistan opted to bat first. Abdullah Shafique and Imam-ul-Haq walk into the crease while Southee opens the bowling attack. Though Pakistan plans to make a decent start, Kiwi’s bowlers made it tough for the hosts.

Ajaz Patel in the 4th over dismissed Shafique via stumping and draws the first blood for Pakistan. Ajaz Patel’s delivery can be simply explained as – Planned to perfection. Following him, M Bracewell in the 7th over dismissed Masood via the same stumping dismissal for 3 runs.

Masood stepped out of the crease for a big drive while Bracewell very calmly shortens the length and gets the ball to turn away while keeper Blundell made use of it and dismissed the batter.

With 2 stumping dismissals, Pakistan becomes the first team in Test cricket history to lose the first two wickets via stumping.

Apart from 2 early wickets, Pakistan lost their 3rd wicket in the form of Imam-ul-Haq after being dismissed by Bracewell for 24 runs. Pakistan already lost two home series against Australia, and England in 2022 and will seek to win the series to avoid the third consecutive series loss at home ground.

At present, Pakistan were batting at 62 runs for 3 wickets where Babar Azam and Saud Shakeel made a stand.
