    Oval Invincibles Retains The Hundred Title With Win Over Southern Brave

    The Men’s Oval Invincibles clinched The Hundred Men’s 2024 Competition title defeating the Southern Brave by 17 runs difference in the finals played at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Sunday.

    The Hundred 2024 winners claimed the second title, as they defeated Manchester Originals by 14 runs in last year’s finals. Saqib Mahmood’s three-wicket haul helped the side defend the total of 147. Through his reverse swing spells, he removed Leus du Plooy, Kieron Pollard, and Laurie Evans, who was considered one of the biggest talents in English domestic cricket.

    Invincibles were the unmatched team of the season who tallied the achievement of their women counterparts. The Women’s Oval Invincibles has won back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022.

    Sam Billings has become the first captain in the history of the tournament to lift two titles. Talking about the match, Brave won the toss and asked the defending champions to bat first. Will Jacks put up 37 runs while opening for the side With Sam Curran and Jordan Cox posting 25 runs each, Sam Billings and Donovan Ferreira were dismissed by Hosein for a duck and 5 runs respectively.

    Tom Curran and Tom Lammonby put up 24 and 16 runs in the match to set a target of 147 runs. Responding to the total, Brave’s openers Alex Davies and captain James Vince posted a 58-run stand, But Adam Zampa broke through the defenses dismissing Alex for 35 runs.

    Will Jacks remove the highest run scorer of the tournament James Vince for 24 runs. With Leus du Plooy and Laurie Evans’ scores of 20 and 16, the middle order collapsed entirely with single-digit scores from each batter.

    Craig Overton put up a score of 22 in the end, but it was not enough to help the side to clinch the title. Sam Curran was named as the Player of the series. While speaking at the winning ceremony, “The environment we have had over the last 4 years has really helped. Similar faces, similar staff, and when we walk into work with a smile it helps. [if he is batting or a bowling allrounder] Don’t care, back-to-back winners.”

    “We won’t hear the end of it tonight, really glad for Tom. He came out and pleased to see him perform for us. Everyone has stood up for us, really pleased we got the trophy and feeling really happy.” said Sam Curran.

    Meanwhile, in the women’s Hundred 2024 competition, London Spirit claimed the title after defeating Welsh Fire by 4 wickets.
