“Our captain and coach have only one plan,” Abhishek Sharma Reveals Cummins’ Message to SRH

The match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians broke several records made in IPL where Sunrisers won the match by 31 runs difference.

Abhishek Sharma scores his fastest fifty ever during the match against Mumbai Indians. After smashing fifty, he scored 63 runs off 23 deliveries with 3 fours and 7 sixes.

During the post-match interview, Abhishek Sharma revealed the strategy coach Daniel Vettori and captain Pat Cummins have developed, which resulted in Abhishek’s impressive innings in the match.

“Our captain and coach have only one plan. They want us to back ourselves in powerplay and they will back us as well. So I think when the captain and coach speaks like this, obviously as a player and a participant in the playing XI, your confidence gets boosted.”

“Yes sir, as Dan (Daniel Vettori) and Pat came in, they only asked me to express myself. So I think my role is pretty simple. I just have to express myself as per the situation and I have to back myself,” Sharma said while explaining the kind of role his coach and captain expects him to play.

He was also asked about the reason behind him coming in as an impact player to which he replied, “No sir, it was pre-decided as I was having a little soreness in my back. So it was decided one day earlier only.”

“I enjoyed batting with Head, he’s one of my favorite batters, I admire him. He told me to go for it if it was in my zone. I had a chance to talk to Brian Lara last night, and that helped me massively,” revealed Abhishek.

Sunrisers were involved in reaching a new high score in the IPL where they scored 277 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. Travis Head smashed a fifty on 18 deliveries and Abhishek Sharma smashed a half-century off 16 deliveries.

Heinrich Klaasen hit an unbeaten 80 runs off 34 balls with 4 fours and 7 sixes. All Mumbai bowlers had an economy of over 10. They put up a good fight but in the end, they scored only 246 runs losing 5 wickets.

Despite having a defeat in their first match of the campaign, Sunrisers Hyderabad has picked up victory against five-time champions Mumbai Indians and secured 3rd position in the IPL 2024 points table.

Sunrisers will be facing Gujarat Titans on the 12th match of the campaign on March 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
