Nuwan Thushara Ruled out of India T20I series due to Broken Finger

Sri Lanka fast bowler Nuwan Thushara has been ruled out for the T20I series against India as he broke a finger in his left hand during a training session on Wednesday.

Team manager Mahinda Halangoda said that the Injury occurred late when the Sri Lankan team was training under lights. Despite the injury sustained on the non-bowling hand, it is severe enough to rule out the player for the T20I series.

Sri Lanka has been set with a major blowback as he is the second fast bowler to be ruled out of the series. Earlier Sri Lanka Cricket announced that Dushmantha Chameera was ruled out with illness and was replaced by Asitha Fernando.

However, it is expected that left-armer Dilshan Madushanka to replace Dilshan Madushanka in the Sri Lanka squad. Nuwan Thushara has been an integral part of Sri Lanka’s T20I 11 this year. He was considered one of the best bowlers in the T20 World Cup as he picked eight wickets in three matches Sri Lanka played.

He has also taken a T20I hat trick for a figure of 5 for 20 during a match against Bangladesh. After failing to qualify for the Super 8s in the T20 World Cup 2024, Sri Lanka is looking for a fresh start with a well-packed team to play a T20I series against World Champions India.

Charith Asalanka has been named as the captain of the T20I squad after Wanindu Hasranga stepped down from captaincy. With both sides involved in rigorous training ahead of the T20I series, it will be quite a showdown at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka squad for T20Is vs IND: Charith Asalanka (C), Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Janith Perera, Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Dunith Wellalage, Maheesh Theekshana, Chamindu Wickramasinghe, Matheesha Pathirana, Binura Fernando, Asitha Fernando.
