Smriti Mandhana on Winning WPL 2024 Trophy
Royal Challengers Bangalore qualified for the final match after trashing Mumbai Indians Women in the Eliminator match of the WPL 2024. With a strong performance in the WPL 2024 Eliminator, the RCB women’s team moved to the grand final with a strong mindset.
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals Women also qualified for the Final match of the last season but ended up as runner-up of the season after failing to beat Mumbai Indians women.
Being finished in the top position in the WPL 2024 points table, Delhi Capitals Women directly qualified for the WPL 2024 final.
speaking on the match, Delhi Capitals Women won the toss and opted to bat first. DCW’s opening batters Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma made a strong partnership by building 64 runs for the first wicket.
Molineux drew the first blood by dismissing Shafali Verma for 44 runs. Following her dismissal, Rodrigues and Alice Capsey lost their wickets in the same over without scoring any runs.
Delhi Capitals Women managed to score only 113 runs for 10-wicket loss at the end of 18.3 overs. With 4 wickets in the final match, Shreyanka Patil becomes the highest wicket-taker of the season.
RCB Women’s on the other hand, chased the target with 3 balls left. With the victory, RCB clinched their first-ever maiden trophy.
Speaking on the victory, RCB Women’s captain Smriti Mandhana says “Feeling hasn’t still sunk in. Hard for me to come out with expressions. One thing I’ll say is I’m proud of the bunch. Our Bangalore leg was really good. We came to Delhi and had two tough losses. That’s what we spoke about that we need to step up at the right time. These tournaments are about peaking at the right time. Last year taught us a lot of things.
What went wrong, what went right. Management just said this is your team, build it (your way). Thumbs up to them. For RCB, it’s a lot more. I’m not the only one who won the trophy, the team has won the trophy.
I’m not the person to talk about what I feel. This is in top five maybe. Obviously a World Cup would top it. Have a message for the fans – the most loyal fanbase. One statement that always comes up is Ee Sala Cup Namde. Now it’s Ee Sala Cup Namdu. Kannada is not my first language but it was important to say it for the fans”, she added.
That Trophy-Lifting Moment! 🙌 🙌
