“Possible to Win” Nigar Sultana Praises Team on Victory in 2nd ODI Against West Indies

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana has applauded the team for their efforts during the second ODI match against West Indies at Werner Park.

After securing 60 60-run win in the second ODI match of the Bangladesh Women’s tour of West Indies 2025, Bangladesh levelled the series 1-1 with one match remaining in the series.

Sultana credited her teammate for giving ‘110 per cent effort’ on the field in the second ODI of the series which has helped the side to keep their hopes of a direct qualification alive for the World Cup alive as well as the chances of a historic serie win over the hosts.

The first ODI match turned out to be nightmare for the visitors as the were outplayed by the hosts with a nine-wicket win.

“I think the team had the faith though the runs were less considering in this kind of wicket. If you don’t score 200 plus runs it is difficult for the bowlers.”

“When we came down to play the game we were saying that we should keep our faith and if we can bowl in the right areas and get the wickets in due time according to our plans it is possible to win (even without scoring 200 runs),” said Nigar Sultana.

“Our plan was to bowl first but after losing the toss when we got down to bat we had the target to score 200-plus runs but we could not achieve that but I tried and played against my character as I took a lot of balls to settle down and the runs were important for the team and happy that I could contribute for the team.”

“I think all the credit goes to the team because the way every bowler and fielder gave their 110 percent effort it was outstanding and due to that this kind of win was possible,” she said.

“We are not thinking about the permutation and combination (of going to the World Cup) but the way we bounced back in one day following the defeat that is more important and it will help us in the series.”

“The two points were important and getting the momentum was also important and the team got that and now in the next game we have the chance to clinch the historic series that we failed to win in overseas and if we can achieve that it will be a big milestone for the team,” she added.

Nahida Akhter was named as the Player of the match for the bowling figures of 3/31 in 10 overs.

However, the final match of the series will be played on January 24 at Werner Park before the start of the T20I series.
