West Indies wicketkeeper batter Nicholas Pooran who was expected to secure the maiden century of the T20 World Cup 2024 missed the glory in just 2 runs. Pooran executed an outstanding inning in their last group match of the tournament played against Afghanistan.
After qualifying for the Super 8 stage both teams faced each other to test their strength who remained unbeaten in their first three games of the group stage. Nicholas Pooran got a massive pump in his score right after his breath taking 36 runs off a single over bowled by Azmatullah Omarzai.
With this knock, Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran joined the elite list of Players with Most Runs in T20Is along with Yuvraj Singh and many others.
Following his aggressive knock, Pooran maintained a steady inning throughout the game in order to balance the batting lineup. After Johnson Charles’ dismissal, Pooran executed a steady inning and maintained his strike rate above 180.
In the death overs, Pooran on joining with Powell started to make some crucial knocks which included 24 runs off an over from Rashid Khan. In the last over, Pooran struck back-to-back sixes and pushed his score beyond the 95 runs mark.
With four legal deliveries left to bowl, Pooran attempted to score a couple of runs by running between the wickets but it backfired. Pooran completed the first run successfully but failed to reach the crease on time for his second.
Azmatullah with a direct hit at the keeper’s end dismissed Pooran for 98 runs and brought an end to the excellent knock. With Pooran’s dismissal, West Indies managed to score 218 runs for 5 wickets loss at the end of 20 overs.
