Netherlands Bowling restricts South Africa to 16/4 in Powerplay
The Netherlands started their campaign with a victory against Nepal with six wickets difference. On the other hand, South Africa secured a 6-wicket victory against Sri Lanka.
With Marco Jansen picking the wicket of opener Michael Levitt in the first over, Ottinel Baartman contributed his part by bagging the wicket of Max ODowd for 2 runs. The Netherlands started to feel pressure as they lost two wickets for 15 runs.
As the Netherlands tried to recover from dismissals Marco Jansen bowled out Virkramjit Singh directly into stumps. With a huge inside edge, the stumps shattered and Vikramjit was sent out for 12 runs. They scored only 20 runs by the end of powerplay.
Sybrand Engelbrecht is working hard to make a partnership to revive his side on the scoreboard, but Nortje sent Bas de Leede back to the dugout for 6 runs. South Africa took complete control of the ground in the first 10 overs as pitch conditions were a challenge for batters as they struggled to score.
South Africa continued to keep up the pace by picking the wicket of captain Scott Edwards on a run out. With an impressive throw from Markram, Edwards’s dive couldn’t save him from the runout.
Right after the dismissal, Teja Nedamanuru came to bat and was immediately sent back after losing his wicket in the hands of Nortje. The short ball proved its nature as it got edged and went straight into the hands of Klaasen in the Deep. The Netherlands lost their sixth wicket before reaching the 50-run mark.
Sybrand scored 40 runs while van Beek scored 23 runs before being dismissed by Ottneil Baartman. With Baartman picking the wicket of Tim Pringle for a duck, Netherlands scored 103 runs losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.
With a target of 104 runs, South Africa started their innings whereas Netherlands bowlers started their attack from the beginning itself. With Quinton de Kock sent out on a golden duck for a runout in the first ball of the innings, Reeza Hendricks scored 3 runs before being dismissed by van Beek.
Kingma strikes twice picking the wickets of Aiden Markram and Heinrich Klaasen for a duck and four runs. South Africa lost four wickets and scored only 16 runs in the powerplay. With the partnership stand from Tristan Stubbs and David Miller, South Africa crossed the 50-run mark.
Their partnership score of 55 runs helped the side to recover from the dismissals. Tristan Stubbs scored 33 runs and was dismissed by Bas de Leede while van Beek dismissed Marco Jansen for 3 runs.
With an unbeaten 59* runs knock from David Miller South Africa won the match by 4 wickets in the 19th over.
