Ahead of the much-awaited ICC women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the Chairperson of the Women’s Selection Committee Neetu David reveals the reason behind snubbing Yastika Bhatia for T20 World Cup 2024.
As per the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Schedule, India who has been placed in group A alongside Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will play their first match against New Zealand on October 4 in Dubai.
Initially, Bangladesh was awarded the hosting rights of the tournament owing to the unrest situation in the nation, the tournament was shifted to UAE while Bangladesh Cricket Board still holds the hosting rights.
Right before the team’s departure to the United Arab Emirates, the Chairperson of the Women’s Selection Committee Neetu David attended a press conference along with Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Head Coach Amol Muzumdar.
During the conference, Neetu David reveals the reason behind snubbing few key players for the global event set to be played between 3 – 20 October 2024 in the United Arab Emirates.
“We didn’t pick them because we wanted to maintain the bench strength. The players who aren’t getting the chances but can be part of the time in the future, we decided to pick them so that they can get the game-time to help them develop physically and mentally,” says Neetu David, the Chairperson of the Women’s Selection Committee.
In the same press conference, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur lauds Indian Cricket team and expresses her confidence in winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
Though the Indian women’s cricket team have an impressive track record they still await to lift their maiden ICC T20 Women’s World Cup title. Women in Blue have made a total of eight appearances in the event and still failed to lift the coveted trophy.
Their best came out in the 2020 edition of the tournament played in Australia where they ended up as runner-up of the tournament.
