Nazmul Hasan Slams Bangladesh Cricketers For Not Taking Part in the Domestic Longer-Version Cricket

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan has slammed the national team and taken a dig saying that they lack the attitude to play Test cricket. Bangladesh’s recent red-ball series against South Africa was a disaster as they failed, losing 0-2.

Speaking ahead of the home series against Sri Lanka, Hasan said that the top players did not have the mentality to play Test cricket for longer stretches and give up after playing the first Test match of the series.

“I wanted to know why we are performing like this in Tests. The coaching staff was giving me examples of four to five Tests and they feel that we can compete in the opening Test but we surrender in the second Test. It happened against Pakistan at home while it was the same in New Zealand and South Africa,” Hasan said.

Bangladesh drew against New Zealand while playing against them in January this year. They won the first Test match by a huge margin of eight wickets but were smashed in the second and the final Test match of the series. The Bangladesh batting order tanked in the final game, losing the match by an innings and 117 runs.

“The problem is that those who play Test cricket are not taking part in the domestic longer-version cricket and so they don’t have the habit of playing for a long time. Now with the international schedule we have, there is hardly any gap, and so even if we want, we cannot make them play domestic cricket, otherwise we have to stop domestic cricket.”

Bangladesh recently lost a two-match Test series against South Africa in the Rainbow nation. Despite showing specs of brilliance, the Bangladesh side were torn by left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj’s brilliance in the two-match series.

Hasan said that he wanted captain Mominul Haque‘s assessment of the squad and wanted an idea of his strategy and planning against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh take on Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series starting 15 May.
