Nattaya Boochatham becomes the first Associate player to take 100 T20I wickets

The Thai women’s Cricketer Nattaya Boochatham became the first Associate player to reach the milestone of dismissing 100 T20I wickets in group-stage matches in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia region qualifiers.

First Associate player to take 100 T20I wickets

The all-rounder Nattaya Boochatham plays for Thailand women’s national cricket team and has played a total of 73 WT20I matches, scalped 101 wickets and marked a milestone on the match against Kuwait Women on the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup regional qualifiers.

The 20th match is scheduled to be played on September 4, 2023, at Selangor Turf Club. Winning the toss Thailand Women chose to bowl first, whereas Priyada Murali and Amna Tariq opened for Kuwait Women and Phannita Maya opened a bowling attack.

Amna Tariq was sent out with 2 runs by Boochatham in the fourth over of their innings for 12 runs. Zeefa Jilani was sent out with a duck on the last ball of the same over. With this wicket, she had scalped 100 WT20I wickets. Priyada Murali had scored 11 runs on 17 deliveries and was sent out by Nattaya Boochatham on the 6th over. With the fall of Priyada Murali, Kuwait Women was down to 13-3 figures and struggled to score runs.

Nattaya had thrown three overs, dismissed three top-order batters, and given only three runs. She is also the second-fastest to dismiss 100 T20I wickets after Sophie Ecclestone, who achieved the milestone in 71 innings. The match was stopped on the 10th over of Kuwait Innings scoring 22/4 and concluded with no result.

The Thailand spinner is currently ranked 38 in the MRF tyres ICC women’s T20I bowling rankings and is the only Thai player in the top 50 rankings.

Currently, she is placed in the 11th place on the Bowlers with 100 WT20I wickets. She had101 dismissals with a Bowling average of 9.96 and she is the only player among bowlers with more than 100 WT20I wickets to have an average less than 10.

Australia has won the previous edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2023 defeating South Africa in final by 19 runs where Laura Wolvaardt topped the list with most runs in the tournament.
