T20 World Cup 2024 NAM vs Oman: Namibia Star David Wiese’s stand in the T20 World Cup 2024‘s first Super Over encounter helped the side start their campaign with a win at Barbados. Namibia and Oman played in the first match of Group B in the tournament where two associate nations clashed against each other at Kensington Oval on Monday.
Despite going all out scoring 109 runs in their innings, Oman restricted Namibia to 109 runs by the end of 20 overs. The game resulted in a tie which resulted in the first super over a game of the T20 World Cup since 2012.
Namibia cricket team which surprised many by qualifying to the Super 12s stage during the 2021 T20 World Cup and defeating Sri Lanka in the first round of the 2022 edition of the tournament has qualified for the ongoing main tournament after dominating the African regional qualifiers by winning all six games they played.
Under the captaincy of Aqib Ilyas, Oman qualified for the main tournament after reaching the finals of the Asian regional qualifiers in Nepal.
This is the third Super Over played in the T20 World Cup history. The first Super over was played during the match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka in the 2012 season where both sides scored 174 runs by the end of 20 overs. Sri Lanka won the Super over by scoring 13 runs for a wicket.
The 2012 T20 World Cup also witnessed the second super over of the tournament during the match between West Indies and New Zealand where both sides scored 139 runs. Finally, West Indies won the match by scoring 19 runs in the super over.
