Mitchell Marsh on Winning the 1st T20I vs SA: The Australian Men’s Cricket team kickstarted their South Africa tour with a victory in the first T20I game they played yesterday.
During the Australia tour of South Africa 2023, a total of 3 T20Is and 5 ODIs have been scheduled to play between August 30 to September 17 across 5 different venues in South Africa.
As scheduled, the first match of the tournament was played on August 30 where the visitors handed a 111-run defeat to the host. Winning the toss, South Africa decided to bowl first whereas the visitor’s opening batters failed to lay a strong foundation.
Head and M Short walk back to the pavilion with a score of 6 and 20 respectively. Though Marco Jansen dismissed Head for just 6 runs, the Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh decided to take the responsibilities and scored an unbeaten 92 runs off just 49 deliveries.
At the end of 20 overs, Australia scored 226 runs for 6 wickets loss. On the other hand, South Africa struggled to face Australian bowlers and lost wickets in regular intervals and ended up scoring 115 runs after losing all their 10 wickets at 15.3 overs.

Post registering a 111-run defeat, Australia’s captain Mitchell Marsh who won the Player of the Match award praises Tim David for his impressive 28 balls 64 runs.
“Always nice to start off a 3-match series with a win. My job is to score runs so was nice to get some today. Lot goes into it, long process with my injury. Been really nice, I love playing for Australia. The environment we’ve got now is the best, I love it. Nice to contribute”.
“Tim David was fantastic, he took a couple of balls to get settled but he took the pressure off me. I think I’ve played too much Test cricket lately, couldn’t hit sixes at the death. Tanveer Sangha is a fantastic talent, he wasn’t in the squad, flew in yesterday and played so well today”, he added.
Australia leads the 3-match T20I series by winning the 1st match while the 2nd T20I match will be played on September 3 at Kingsmead, Durban.
