Mustafizur Rahman travels to Chennai to join CSK after Injury Scare

Despite suffering from severe cramps during the 3rd ODI match of Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh 2024, pacer Mustafizur Rahman headed to Chennai to join CSK for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.

The Chennai Super Kings have been relieved after pacer Mustafizur Rahman left for India to take part in the Indian Premier League 2024.

Before leaving for Chennai on Tuesday, Mustafizur took his social media handle on his official X account where he was seen sitting with his luggage at the airport.

Mustafizur wrote, “Excited and looking forward to my new assignment. Heading to Chennai for IPL 2024. Keep me in your prayers so that I can deliver my best.”

The Chennai Super Kings responded to the player’s tweet indicating their expectancy of the player joining the squad.

Bangladesh Pacer Mustafizur Rahman suffered severe cramps during the third ODI match against Sri Lanka.

He bagged two wickets for 39 runs in 9 overs he bowled on March 18. During the 42nd over, he was seen uncomfortable with his stomach and fell to the ground after completing the over.

Batting first Sri Lanka scored 235 runs with Janith Liyanage being the highest scorer smashing 101 runs on 102 deliveries. Tasking Ahmed picked three wickets while Mustafizur and Mehidy Hasan Miraz bagged two wickets each.

With the target of 236 runs, Bangladesh started their innings where Tanzid Hasan was the highest scorer for Bangladesh hitting 84 runs on 81 deliveries including 9 fours and 4 boundaries.

Lahiru Kumara bagged four wickets while Wanindu Hasranaga bagged two wickets. Bangladesh won the match by scoring 237 runs on the 41st over and clinched the series 2-1.

Chennai Super Kings has been suffering from back-to-back injuries ahead of the new season as Devon Conway and Matheesha Pathirana will be missing the first part of the IPL and their participation for the second half will depend on the recovery process.

Devon Conway has undergone surgery for a thumb injury he sustained during the second T20I match of Australia’s tour of New Zealand 2024. He was impressive during the previous IPL season where he scored 672 runs in 16 matches.

Meanwhile, Matheesha Pathirana suffered an injury during the second T20I match on the Bangladesh tour. With them being ruled out, there will be a change in the squad and TOS has given the best probable playing 11 of the side for the upcoming season.

Chennai Super Kings will be playing their first match of the IPL 2024 campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
