Mumbai claims their 42nd Ranji Trophy title by defeating Vidarbha for 169 runs in the finals of the Ranji Trophy 2024 season.
Mumbai Clinches 42nd Ranji Trophy Title
Mumbai won the finals of the Ranji Trophy 2024 season beating Vidarbha by 169 runs on the fifth day at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
Vidarbha needed 290 runs off in the finals in their 538 runs chase, where they scored 130 for the sixth wicket in the morning session. Akshay Wadkar and Harsh Dubey partnership made Mumbai bowlers struggle to bag a wicket.
But their fall in the successive overs slipped the chances of third title win for vidarbha. Tanush Kotian picked up four wickets including Wadkar who smashed a century in their second innings.
Vidarbha’s Karun Nair scored 74, while Akshay Wadkar smashed 102 runs and Harsh Dubey’s 65 runs made vidarbha to put up a good fight in the finals.
Dhawal Kulkarni who is set to retire by the end of this season, claimed the final wicket and seal the victory for Mumbai.
Coming to the match, Mumbai scored 224 runs where Shardul Thakur was the only half-centurion for the side in the match. He smashed 75 runs on 69 deliveries including 8 fours and 3 sixes.
With a trial of 224 runs, Vidharba started their innings where the batting line-up suffered severe loss as they lost all 10 wickets for scoring 105 runs.
After Mumbai started their second innings, they responded after scoring 418 runs in their second innings. Musheer Khan smashed 136 runs to help Mumbai post the high target.
Shreyas Iyer scored 95 runs in the second innings of Mumbai and was taken under care by medical staff while batting due to his back problem. He even skipped fielding during the fourth and fifth day of the match at Wankhede Stadium.
With a target of 538 runs, Vidharbha started their innings where they scored 340 runs losing 5 wickets on session 2 of day 05.
Akshay Wadkar smashed 102 runs on 199 deliveries while Harsh Dubey scored 65 runs. With the fall of Wadkar and Harsh Dubey, Vidharbha lost all 10 wickets scoring 368 runs on their second innings.
