Mukesh Kumar’s Maiden ODI Wicket
The First Wicket in an international career will be a special one for all the players. Mukesh Kumar had his first wicket in the 1st ODI of the West Indies Tour 2023 on Thursday.
Mukesh Kumar got his maiden wicket in the 1st ODI in the eighth over, with the help of Ravindra Jadeja. On the fifth ball of the over, Alick Athanaze went cut short against a delivery from Mukesh. The ball flew in the air but with his well-timed jump and made a marvellous catch.
Skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli decided to give game time for middle-order batters as India beat West Indies with five wickets as Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav made their contribution with their bowling skills.
Ravindra Jadeja takes 3 wickets in six overs giving 37 runs and Kuldeep took 4 wickets in four overs giving 6 runs setting up West Indies for 114 in 23 overs.
It was the decision by Indian coach Rahul Dravid and Skipper Rohit Sharma to give time for middle-order batsmen to perfect the combination of batters and fix the flaws before the World Cup as they have only 12 ODI matches in their hands.

But it didn’t go as planned as Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya were sent out with low score figures. The chase was never a problem but the fall of the wicket will take a turn in the match. Motie was able to pick up 2 wickets in 26 runs out of 6.5 overs.
Mukesh had become famous after two stellar Ranji seasons in 2019-20 and 2022-23 for Bengal. He was selected in the Indian team for the Test series in Bangladesh in 2022 and later on, was picked for Delhi Capitals for 5.5 crore INR in Indian Premier League auctions in 2023.
Mukesh took 32 wickets in 10 First Class games in the 2019-20 Ranji season and was able to scalp 22 batters in just five matches in the 2022-23 Ranji Trophy.
Apart from Mukesh Kumar, Hardik Pandya, Shardul Thakur, and Umran Malik are the other three pacers while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja are the two spinners in India’s playing 11. Ishan Kishan was preferred for the wicket-keeper batter in the Indian lineup.

India beat West Indies by five wickets in the 1st ODI of the WI tour 2023 and goes up with 1-0 as they played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown on July 27, 2023. Captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja remained not out on 12 and 16 respectively. Earlier, India bowled the West Indies out for 114 runs in just 23 overs.
Both teams are preparing to face the 2nd ODI on July 29, 2023, at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
