After struggling with injury for a long time, India’s ODI World Cup hero Mohammed Shami has finally returned to the nets eyeing to make his comeback to competitive cricket.
Mohammed Shami Starts Bowling in Nets
The fast bowler Mohammed Shami took his social media handle to provide an update on his recovery. He posted a video on his Instagram handle, which features the speedster bowling a few deliveries in the nets. “Vibing with the latest, grinding for the greatest,” mentioned Shami in the post.
Having recovered from the injury, Shami holds back bowling at full intensity as a cautious approach. Shami underwent surgery for an injured ankle in February, but his recovery took much longer as he missed the IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024. Shami’s absence from the squad has been felt on many occasions, particularly in India’s South Africa tour and home tour against England.
Shami took injections and played with pain in the ODI World Cup, where India finished up as the runners. Despite his injury, Mohammed Shami emerged as the highest wicket-taker in the ODI World Cup 2023 picking 24 wickets in seven matches.
He withdrew from the multi-format series against South Africa due to pain where Avesh Khan has been brought in as Shami’s replacement for the second test. He also missed the five-match test series against England at home. In his absence, Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep have been handed caps in the last few months.
With him returned to bowling, Shami is expected to make his comeback for two test match series and three T20Is against Bangladesh starting in September. He will be missing the Sri Lanka tour and with Jasprit Bumrah rested, Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep will have a chance to prove their presence. The Sri Lanka tour begins with T20I leg starting on July 27 at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.
