    Mohammad Amir Guides Pakistan to 7-wicket Victory against Canada

    Mohammad Amir played an outstanding innings to secure a victory for Pakistan during the match against Canada in New York. Canada is scheduled to play in the 22nd T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan on June 11 at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

    Mohammad Amir picked two wickets in four overs he bowled with an impressive economy rate of 3.20 during the match which has put Pakistan in the driver’s seat at Nassau County. He was named player of the Match. While speaking in the post-match conference, “As a bowler, you have to adapt to any conditions. I was just trying to hit the right areas, the conditions were demanding.”

    “As a professional, you’ve to be clear in your role, I know I have to bowl with the new ball, and at the death, I’m ready for anything. I bowled the away swinger for 3-4 deliveries, and I then decided to swing it back in (on the dismissal of Dhaliwal). Much needed win, we’ve to win the next match and then who knows?” he concluded.

    Coming to the match, Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl. Aaron Johnson and Navneet Dhaliwal opened the innings. Mohammad Amir picked the wicket for four runs. Navneet was bowled out as he stayed back to get a full delivery. But the ball swung inside the edge and stuck the middle stump. In the third over Shaheen Afridi picked the wicket of Pargat Singh for 2 runs. With Aaron Johnson continuing to bat, Canada scored 30 runs in the powerplay.

    Nicholas Kirton was sent out on a run-out for one run in the seventh over. With the dismissal of Shreyas Movva and Ravinderpal Singh by Haris Rauf, Canada started to feel the pressure in the match by losing wickets at regular intervals. By the end of the 10th over, Canada lost 5 wickets for scoring 55 runs.

    Aaron Johnson smashed a half-century in 39 deliveries with an impressive six. He was later dismissed by Naseem Shah for 52 runs in the 14th over. Saad Bin Zafar scored 10 runs before his dismissal by Amir in the 17th over. With Kaleem Sana and Dillon Heyliger‘s runs of 13 and 9, Canada scored 106 runs in 20 overs.

    With a target of 106 runs, Mohammad Rizwan and Saib Ayub opened the innings. Saim Ayub was sent out for 6 runs in the 5th over while Babar Azam joined hands with Rizwan to score 63 partnership runs for the second wicket.

    Fakhar Zaman scored only four runs before being dismissed by Gordon in the 18th over. With Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 53 runs, Pakistan secured their first victory of the ongoing T20 World Cup season.
