Former Indian captain Mithali Raj is set to leave her role as a mentor of the women’s Premier League franchise Gujarat Giants ahead of the WPL 2025 auction.
Mithali Raj reported that had signed a three-year contract with the side but decided to part ways with the franchise. In the first two seasons of the WPL, Gujarat finished last on the table with four points on both occasions.
The former batter was appointed the mentor of women’s cricket operations by the Andhra Cricket Association on a three-year contract with the “specific objective of scouting and grooming young talent across the State,” said a report.
Meanwhile the franchise along with Mithali would be the Giants’ bowling coach Nooshin Al Khadeer, the report suggest. Nooshin is also currently the head coach of the women’s U-19 team.
Giants are expected to make an announcement for their replacements on Thursday, which is three days ahead of the WPL auctions. Meanwhile, head coach Michael Klinger and fielding coach Carl Hopkinson are expected to continue in their respective roles.
Meanwhile, a total of 120 players will feature in WPL 2025 mini-auction on December 15 in Bengaluru. Out of total, 91 are Indians and 29 players are overseas, including three from associate teams. A maximum of 19 slots are to be filled across the five franchises and five of those can be taken by overseas players.
