The former England star Michael Vaughan lauds young pacer Shoaib Bashir for his impressive performance in the Ranchi test on England’s tour of India 2024.
Michael Vaughan verdict on Shoaib Bashir
Former England captain Michael Vaughan feels that England has produced a young off-spinner, Shoaib Bashir who can match the skills of the successful spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.
Despite England’s five-wicket loss in the fourth test, Bashir has played only two tests including the clash at Ranchi. But he returned to be impressive with 8 wickets in the match. He picked up a five-wicket haul in the first innings of the match.
On the other hand, Ashwin has been known as one of the best spinners in the history of Test cricket. The senior spinner recently became the second Indian bowler to pick 500 wickets.
He has completed 99 test matches and will be playing in his 100th test in Dharamsala next week.
“One of the great weeks, celebrating another world-class superstar that we’ve unearthed, Shoaib Bashir. That’s what we’re celebrating. Second Test match, he eight wickets, he’s the new Ravi Ashwin, and we’ve unearthed him.
“So, we’re celebrating a new superstar in English cricket,” said Vaughan on his YouTube channel.
India clinched their series victory 3-1 after securing the victory in the fourth test. England won the first test of the series but suffered consecutive defeats in the ongoing series.
This will be India’s 17th test series win at home where they have not lost a test series since 2012. Vaughan wants England to win the final test against India which could add 12 points to the WTC points table.
India and England will be playing their final test on March 07 at HPCA Stadium, Dharamsala.
