MI vs CSK 2024 Highlights: El-Casino of the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2024 resulted in the favour of “Men in Yellow” after Matheesha Pathirana bagged 4 crucial wickets for Chennai Super Kings.
At Wankhede Stadium MI and CSK both faced each other under new captains notably not under their 5 times title winning captains. Hardik Pandya led Mumbai Indians while Ruturaj Gaikwad led Chennai Super Kings instead of Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni.
Speaking on the game, Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bowl first where surprisingly Ajinkya Rahane came out to open the inning along with Rachin Ravindra.
But Chennai Super Kings’ move didn’t stand against the Mumbai Indian’s aggressive bowling attack. Gerald Coetzee dismissed homeboy for just 5 runs and drew the first blood for CSK.
After Ajinkya Rahane’s dismissal, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad made an impressive performance and scored 69 runs from 40 balls before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya in the second ball of the 16th over.
On the other hand, Shivam Dube made an aggressive performance from one end while Daryl Mitchell on the other end struggled to make it big. Hardik Pandya put an end to his struggle in the second delivery of the final over by dismissing Mitchell for 17 runs.
Following his dismissal, the Wankhede crowd erupted in cheer not for Mitchell’s dismissal but for the entry of the man who bagged the World Cup for India in 2011 with a six at this same venue.
With just four balls left, MS Dhoni smashed hattrick sixes and pushed the team’s score beyond the 200 runs mark. with a couple of runs in the final over, CSK scored 206 runs for 4-wicket loss at the end of 20 overs.
On the other hand, chase experts Mumbai Indians opening batter – Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan made an impressive opening partnership by scoring 70 runs for 1st wicket. Matheesha Pathirana made the first breakthrough by dismissing Kishan for 23 runs.
Following his dismissal, MI’s most aggressive batter Suryakumar Yadav lost his wicket without scoring any. With a couple of wickets in the same over, CSK might looked to have an upper hand in the game but Rohit Sharma on the other end posed a great threat for the visitors.
But Matheesha Pathirana’s 4 wickets left Mumbai Indians bamboozled and even controlled Rohit’s aggressive strikes. At the end of 20 overs, Mumbai scored 186 runs and fell short by 20 runs for the victory – the exact score of MS Dhoni which he scored in just 4 deliveries.
With the victory, Chennai Super Kings remain in the 3rd spot in the IPL 2024 Points Table while Mumbai Indians slip to the 8th spot.
