MI Target Players: With a total of INR 75 Crore having been used for the retention, Mumbai will be moving into the mega auction with a remaining purse value of INR 45 Crore.
According to the new IPL 2025 retention rules released by BCCI, each team can retain six players from their existing squad via retention or the Right to Match (RTM) option.
As Mumbai retained five of the players from the previous year’s squad, Mumbai can buy one player using the Right to Match (RTM) card option during the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Yuzvendra Chahal
After being released by Rajasthan Royals ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, the leg spinner will be the one of the key buy for any team in the upcoming auction.
Being the highest wicket taker in the IPL history, Chahal is only bowler to have more than 200 IPL wickets.
Nehal Wadhera
The 24 year old joined in 2023 and was impressive with 241 runs in 14 games at a strike rate of 145. He played six games and score 109 runs during the IPL 2024 season where the side finished the leage at the bottom of the points table.
Being effective against both spin and pace, he has good temperament and can be used as a floater anywhere in the line-up.
Quinton de Kock
Being a consistent performer in the IPL, de Kock has been part of the Lucknow Super Giants since 2022. Despite being under performed during the last season, he will be chased by number of teams because of his consistent performance and skill set.
Mumbai might consider de Kock as a overseas wk-keeper along with Jitesh Sharma or Phil Salt. Previously, he has played for Mumbai few seasons and has been the highest run scorer for the 2019 season where the side clinched a title.
Jitesh Sharma
Jitesh Sharma has been impressive in the IPL for Punjab Kings. Being released by the team ahead of the auction, might be targeted by the five time champions due to their good track of Indian young players. He could be a good option for MI as a wk-batter.
Phil Salt
Phil Salt is a young talented batsman who can open the innings. Being a poweful hitter and keep wickets, he might be a good option for MI as an overseas player.
The England land international was part of the squad for the opening wicket and helped KKR to swashbucking start in IPL 2024.
These are just talented players that the five times champions could target at the IPL 2025 auction. The team will need to be careful in their selection and ensure that they build a balanced squad so far that can compete for the title.
The team has a good record of identifying and nurturing young players and will be looking to sign some young players who could be the future of the team.
Ahead of the auction, Mumbai Indians has retained five players out of six retentions allowed for a franchise and will be likely to use the One RTM card option during the event.

The IPL governing council has confirmed that the mega auction will be held in November 24 and 25 at Jeddah. Despite the event being hosted overseas, IPL fans can still enjoy the IPL 2025 auction live streaming from their home.
