U-19 Kwena Maphaka has replaced the Injured Dilshan Madushanka in the Mumbai Indians squad for the IPL 2024 which is set to start on Friday.
Madushanka’s Replacement for IPL 2024
Dilshan Madushanka sustained a hamstring injury during Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh in 2024 and will be ruled out of the remaining tour and the IPL tournament. Mumbai Indians have brought in Kwena Maphaka as a replacement.
The 17-year-old left-arm bowler was named as the Player of the tournament in Men’s U-19 World Cup 2024. He picked up 21 wickets in the competition is the most wickets taken in an edition of the U-19 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Dilshan Madushanka has been brought into the squad for INR 4.6 crores and he was one of the players expected in the probable playing 11 of the Mumbai Indians. He was brought into the squad after his impressive skills on ODI World Cup 2023 where he picked 21 wickets.
Maphaka will join Mumbai Indians at his base price of INR 50 lakhs. The bowling coach Lasith Malinga and India’s Jasprit Bumrah will ensure that Maphaka learns from the best in the business.
“Maphaka already is capable of generating serious pace and has a very mean bouncer that is known to hurry the batters up. He debuted for the South Africa U19 team at 15 & has already played in two U19 World Cups,” said MI in a media release.
“He is capable of touching speeds of 140kph, and his death bowling and yorkers were a standout too at the U19 World Cup earlier this year.
“He will share the dressing room with two of the best bowlers in world cricket – Lasith Malinga, bowling coach, and Jasprit Bumrah putting him on a path of learning, development, and building on that knowledge.”
Known for his fast bowling stats, He has reached a speed of 140 kph and has been one of the formidable bowlers with his impressive death bowling and yorkers, he made his U-19 debut at the age of 15.
The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to commence on March 22 with CSK and RCB to play in the first match of the campaign after the completion of the IPL 2024 opening ceremony.
Mumbai Indians will be opening their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 24 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
