Melbourne Stars Recruits Adam Milne Ahead of BBL Season Opener

New Zealand Adam Milne will be gearing up for the opening stages of the Big Bash season after signing for Melbourne Stars as an international replacement player.

The 32-year-old right-arm veteran has joined the Melbourne Stars Squad for the first three matches as a replacement for Usama Mir.

Pakistan spinner Usama Mir will be joining the squad after Christman as he required to remain in Pakistan commitments.

Signing a pace bowler as a replacement for a spinner indicates that the club has been involved in change in tactics and is a much needed reinforcement for the Stars Squad which has Brody Couch, Joel Paris and Mark Steketee in Pacer unit.

“To be able to secure someone of Adam’s talent and experience is a huge boost for the squad for the first three games,” said Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch.

“Adam knows Australian conditions well, we value what he will add to the squad and we look forward to seeing what he can produce.”

Milne is the second replacment star for Stars who have already signed a deal with Joe Clarke as a replacement for Ben Duckett who will be across Tasman on Test duty with England when BBL 2024-25 begins. Milne last played T20 international for New Zealand against Australia in February.

He has most recently been playing in the Abu Dhabi T10 league and played 12 games for the Sydney Thunder during 2020-21 season picking five wickets with an economy rate of 7.56.

Duckett will miss the first two games due to third test of England tour of New Zealand.

Meanwhile Renegades also miss the services of all-rounder Jacob Bethell who made his Test debut in the ongoing New Zealand-England series.

Renegades have announced all-rounder Hassan Khan as their replacement player who picked 10 wickets and scored 204 runs at a strike rate of 143.70 across nine games for the San Franciso Unicorns.

Melbourne Stars will be playing their first match of the BBL 2025 schedule against Perth Scorchers on December 15 at Optus Stadium.
