Australian WK-Batter Matthew Wade is set to miss Gujarat Titans’ first match of the upcoming IPL 2024 as he set to play in the finals of Sheffield Shield.
Wade to Miss Gujarat’s Opener match
Gujarat Titans will have a major setback as Australian cricketer Matthew Wade will be missing the franchise’s opening match of IPL 2024.
The Australian batter was retained by the franchise before the IPL 2024 mini-auction will be playing the Sheffield Shield final for Tasmania.
Tasmania is set to feature in the finals in Sheffield played between March 21-25 while Gujarat’s first match of the IPL Campaign against Mumbai Indians on March 24.
If the finals go on to the last day, then the batter will be missing the second match of the IPL 2024 schedule where Gujarat will be facing reigning champions Chennai Super Kings on March 26.
“He’s spoken with his IPL franchise and they’re happy to allow him to stay here, which probably equates to him potentially missing their first game,” Tasmania head coach Jeff Vaughan confirmed.
“We feel very fortunate to have someone of Matt’s ilk coming back into our group, and his experience and his performances at the back end of our season.”
Wade has been part of the Titans since the franchise’s introduction in the 2022 season. He was part of the playing 11 which won the title in the year 2022.
He played around 10 matches in the season and scored 157 runs with a strike rate of 113.77. But he did not play in the 2023 edition as Wriddhiman Saha was preferred for the role of Wicketkeeper-batter.
