The opener Abhishek Sharma twisted his ankle during the net session in Chennai ahead of the 2nd T20I of the England tour of India 2025.
He reportedly twisted his ankle during a catching drill in Chennai on Friday. Abhishek was attended by the Indian team Physio on the field and left to the dressing room to rest.
He was seen limping while returning to the pavilion and did not come to bat again. he spent over 30 minutes with the physio in the dressing room. If Abhishek is unable for 2nd T20I, India will consider including Washington Sundar or Dhruv Jurel in the playing 11.
Currently, India secured a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series after a seven-wicket win at Kolkata.
Meanwhile, Shami who did not play in the opener game, has been spotted steady bowling session in the nets on the eve of the 2nd T20I. The Indian pacer reportedly worked hard to find his bowling rhythm at Chepauk.
However, Shami’s return for the second T20I remains uncertain as he was spotted with bandaged legs.
Shami also participated in throwing drills for a few minutes with fielding coach T Dilip before hitting the bowlin nets closer to the Madras Cricket Club.
He was expected to make a comeback in Kolkata, but the team management has decided to field Arshdeep Singh as the only specialist pacer.
The 34 year old also bowled a couple of deliveries to all-rounder Nitish Reddy who returned to the main ground along with Hardik pandya, before going back to follow fielding and catching drills.
The second match of the T20I series will be played on January 25 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
