Mahmudul Hasan ruled out of Pakistan Tests with groin injury

Bangladesh opening batter Mahmudul Hasan has been ruled out of the upcoming two-match Test series against Pakistan due to a groin injury. Bangladesh Cricket Board is yet to announce his replacement for the Pakistan test series.

During the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024 a total of two tests will be played between August 21 and September 3. The Test series will form part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship.

“We have received a mail regarding Mahmudul where it is stated that he sustained an injury to his right groin and as a result, he is being rested for three weeks,” BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury confirmed to a sports website on Saturday (August 17).

Mahmudul sustained the injury while playing for Bangladesh A team that faced Shaheens in Islamabad ahead of joining the Test squad.

The right-handed batter scored 65 in the first innings against Shaheens. He also scored 69 and 65 runs in the four-day matches that he played as part of the High-Performance Unit against Shaheens.

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batter Mushfiqur Rahim who is currently recovering from a finger injury that he sustained during their four-day game is hopeful of returning to the opening game of the series.

“In the second innings (before going to bat) I got hurt in my finger so I did not bat. Hopefully I will recover very soon and inshallah I will play in the first Test,” Mushfiqur said in a statement provided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board.

The first match of the Bangladesh tour of Pakistan 2024 will be played between August 21 and 25 in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi.
