The CSK opener and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has opened up about MS Dhoni’s role in Shivam Dube’s transformation after their win against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2024 campaign.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Reveals Dhoni’s Role in Dube’s Transformation
CSK registered their second victory in the IPL 2024 season after thumping Gujarat by 63 runs at Gujarat stadium. Ruturaj spoke about his team’s performance after the match.
“Definitely today’s game was perfect – batting, bowling and fielding, and against a team like Gujarat we needed to come up with a performance like this. In Chennai we are not sure how the wicket will be, we need to do well irrespective of batting or bowling first.
“Here if we have wickets in hand at the end it helps. Personally felt, that Rachin batted brilliantly in the powerplay and took the game away. From there we were always ahead.”
He also praised Shivam Dube who smashed a half-century in the match and revealed that MS Dhoni has worked on him. He also said that he was delighted to put team effort on the field.
“[on Dube] In terms of confidence, the management and Mahi bhai worked with him, and his confidence is very high. He knows his roles very well. Definitely, he is a big plus for us. I’m impressed with the fielding as well.
“Maybe one or two youngsters we have extra this year and great effort from Jinks, even in the last game he was running from one end to the other. Fielding is a big tick for us.”
Coming to the match, CSK batted first where Rachin Ravindra stormed GT bowler with his impressive fours and sixes. He smashed 46 runs on 20 deliveries and the other opener Ruturaj Gaikwad also scored 46 runs which helped the side to have an impressive start.
Shivam Dube had an impressive innings smashing 51 runs from 23 balls and with the help of other batters score, CSK was able to score 206 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.
With the target of 207 runs, GT opened their innings where Shubman Gill was sent out with 8 runs. Despite his early dismissal, Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan provided the required run rate for the side.
But with their dismissal, Gujarat Titans had no chance against CSK’s bowling attacks, as Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur and Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets each.
Finally, Chennai contained Gujarat for 143 runs and secured victory by 63 runs. With this victory, CSK gained the top position in the IPL 2024 points table. Mustafizur Rahman is currently the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with six wickets in two matches.
Chennai will play their first home-away match against Delhi Capitals on March 31 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
