Australia’s U-19 Lily Bassingthwaighte has revealed that people often compare her actions with Indian spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and mentioned that people say that she looks like him when she bowls.
Bassingthwaighte is currently participating in the ICC women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025 and starred with the ball for his team in their opening fixtures against Nepal.
The emerging star had revealed that she’s a big fan of Jasprit Bumrah as people often compare her actions with the India fast bowler. She praised the India speedster for his mentality and his ability to get wickets at crucial stages of the game.
“I want to say Jasprit Bumrah because his elbow also hyperextends and mine do that a bit too, so people say that I look like him when I bowl.”
“I just like his mentality as he always finds a way to get wickets. I don’t know if it’s great when it’s against Australia but he’s good to watch,” said Bassingthwaighte.
Bassingthwaighte was the pick of bowlers for Australia’s U-19 during their win in the opening fixture against Nepal U-19.
The right arm seamer registered figures of 2/4 in three overs to restrict Nepal to 56/8 in reply to Australia’s score 139/6.
Caoimhe Bray was adjudged Player of the Match for top scoring for Australia with her knock of 45 (34) in Australia’s 83-run win.
Bumrah is in contention for ICC Test Cricketer of the Year after his stellar performance in the format in 2024. The India speedster took 71 wickets from 13 wickets from 13 tests at an average of 14.92 and claimed the top spot in the ICC Test bowling rankings.
Bumrah has nominated alongside Joe Root, Kamindu Mendis and Harry Brook. Meanwhile, India is set back with major blow as Bumrah has been injured and racing against time to get fit before the Champions Trophy 2025.
Bumrah is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru as Indian fans await confirmation on his fitness.
