It has been two years since spin legend Shane Warne passed away. He had been a bowler who left an everlasting mark in Cricket World.
Warne’s ex-wife Simone Callahan also paid her tribute to his memory on Instagram. “Forever in our hearts, we love you, we miss you,” posted Simone Callahan on Instagram.
He made his international debut in the third test match on India’s tour of Australia in 1992, which resulted in a draw. Until then he played 145 tests and 194 ODIs in his international career.
His greatest cricket moment came from his Ashes debut in June 1993, when he dismissed the batter Mike Gatting with his magical spin. The former Test captain who was a prolific player of spin bowling was dismissed in the next seven seconds which stunned the World.
Warne’s delivery against Gatting took a sharp right turn after pitching. Mike Gatting responded with a front-foot defensive shot, but the ball missed his bat and hit the stumps.
The ball stunned Gatting and umpire Dickie Bird called it “the ball of the Century.” The batter spoke about the incident later saying, “It did spin a long way from two or three inches outside leg stump…
The ball had not brushed my bat, my glove, or my pad, so I thought Australia wicketkeeper Ian Healy must have kicked the bail off…The ball had clipped the bail.”
Shane Warne ended up picking the wickets in the test and eventually, Australia won the match by 179 runs.
