Liam Livingstone’s Ton Powered England’s Win at Antigua

After trailing the series 1-0, Liam Livingstone’s led side made a strong comeback to secure a five-wicket victory during the second ODI of England’s tour of the West Indies 2024 at Antigua.

Despite West Indies setting up a huge target of 328 runs, England pummeled the hosts and secured victory in 47.3 overs. Notably, Liam Livingstone’s unbeaten 124 runs, including five fours and nine sixes, made an easy win for the visitors.

Shai Hope’s 117 runs along with half-centuries from Keacy Carty and Sherfane Rutherford proved no match for England’s lineup.

England lost two wickets before the end of the first 12 overs where Will Jacks fell for Matthew Forde and Jordan Cox tox edging a pull off Shamar Joseph to be 63/2.

Meanwhile, Salt smashed a half-century before his dismissal by Forde. Following a steady partnership from Jacob Bethell and Livingstone, the latter smashed a 51-ball century.

Sam Curran joined Livingstone striking a six and four in an over off Gudakes Motie. West Indies managed to put pressure on visitors between 30 and 40 overs as the period had only two fours.

Livingstone shifted to aggressive mode when the side needed 100 runs in 10 overs. He was on 46 off 57 at the end of the 40th over and by the end of the 45th over, he had raced to 99 off 76.

Motie came under attack from Livingstone, being hit for three sixes and a four in two overs, while England also got a bing 26-run over from Jayden Seales in the 45th over, with Livingstone striking two sixes and two fours.

Curran also crossed fifty and extended the partnership to 140 runs where Livingstone secured a 77-ball hundred with a single, securing his maiden ODI century. A couple of singles in the 48th over finished the job.

Earlier while bowling, John Turner struck early to dismiss Brandon King and Evin Lewis. But a 143-run partnership between Hope and Carty provided a solid base for West Indies to post a huge total.

The third ODI match of the series will be played on November 06 at Kensington Oval, Barbados.
