Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad points out that their poor “fielding” was the major reason behind their defeat against Gujarat Titans on Friday.
With the defeat against Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings’ path for the qualifier becomes tougher. CSK were scheduled to face Gujarat Titans to play the 59th match of the IPL 2024 on May 10 in Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Winning the toss, CSK decided to bowl first where Gujarat Titans’ opening batters scored a century each and led the team towards a much safer position. The duo made a 210-run stand for the first wicket.
At the end of 20 overs, GT scored 231 runs for 3 wickets loss. On the other hand, CSK made a struggling start in their 200-plus run-chase inning.
CSK lost their first three wickets for 10 runs. Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali made a 109-run stand and gave hopes of winning the game. But Mohit Sharma scattered the hope by dismissing Daryl Mitchell, Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube in his consecutive overs.
At the end of 20 overs, Chennai Super Kings fell 35 runs short and lost the game. During the post-match presentation, CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad reveals the reason for the defeat.
“Fielding let us down a little bit, we gave away 10-15 runs. Execution-wise we were good but they played really well. Two batters were exceptional and it’s hard to control runs around the park. Our next game is a day game in Chennai (day after tomorrow), it’s going to be tough against a tough team (Rajasthan Royals),” Gaikwad said.
Chennai Super Kings are currently positioned at the fourth spot in the IPL 2024 points table with 12 points and still have not bagged enough points for playoff qualification. CSK needs to win their remaining two games set to play against RR and RCB on May 12 and 18 respectively.
