The skipper Laura Wolvaardt has achieved a milestone of 2000 T20I runs and becomes the first South African batter to do so.
She accomplished the feat during the first T20I match of England women’s tour of South Africa 2024 where Laura was short of 12 runs before completing the 2000 run mark.
Laura scored 22 runs in the game before being dismissed by Charlie Dean. The 25 year old has had a defining year with the bat so far in the shorter format.
She has scored 648 runs in 18 innings with an average of 40.50 in the year including a century 102 against Sri Lanka.
Laura Wolvaardt made her T20I debut in August 2016, against Irish side scoring 24 runs, when she was only 17 year old. She smashed her first fifty for her side in 2018.

In her first major tournament in ICC women’s T20 World Cup, the right handed batter had an ordinary outing with only 16 runs in three innings. It was in the 2020 edition of the ICC women’s T20 World Cup after unbeaten 55 also earning the player of the match for the same.

During the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, Laura Wolvaardt was the leading runscorer of the tournament with 230 runs in six innings which included three fifties at an average of 46. It was the side’s first T20 world Cup final where she concluded 1000 runs in the T20I format.
Laura Wolvaardt was appointed as South Africa’s skipper in November 23. During her stint as captain, South Africa qualified for the T20 World Cup finals where they lost to New Zealand.
She was the leadng run scorer in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 scoring 223 runs in six innings averaging 44.
