    Lahiru Thirimanne Hospitalised after Car Accident in Anuradhpura

    The former Sri Lankan skipper Lahiru Thirimanne was hospitalized after being involved in a car accident.

    Lahiru Thirimanne Hospitalised After Car Accident

    Lahiru Thirimanne met with a car accident on Thursday and was hospitalized in Anuradhapura. He was traveling in his car when he got into a serious head-on collision and he was taken to the teaching hospital.

    Reports claimed that there was at least another passenger with Thirimanne in the car and others who traveled with the former cricketer are also receiving treatment in the hospital.

    According to reports Thirimanne was on pilgrimage when the accident happened. The car crashed into a lorry that was coming from the other side where his car was damaged seriously in the incident.

    The New York Strikers in the Legends Cricket and the franchise has released a statement regarding the incident.

    “We wish to inform you that Lahiru Thirimanne and his family were involved in a small car accident while visiting the temple. Thankfully, they have been admitted to the hospital for observation.”

    “Fortunately, following a thorough medical assessment, we can confirm that they are all safe and sound, with no cause for concern. We appreciate the outpouring of concern and support from everyone during this time. We kindly request respect for their privacy as they recover,” the statement stated.

    Lahiru Thirimanne has played 44 test matches, 127 ODIs, and 26 T20Is during his decade-long career. He was part of the three T20 World Cup campaigns including the title 2014 edition.

    Lahiru Thirimanne announced his international retirement in July last year. He spoke about his retirement on Facebook saying, “As a player, I have given my best, I have tried my best, I have respected the game and I have done my duty honestly and ethically to my motherland.”

    “It was a difficult decision to make, but I cannot mention here the many unexpected reasons that influenced me to take this decision willingly or unwillingly. I take this opportunity to thank the SLC members, my coaches, teammates, Physios, trainers, and analysts for their support and encouragement.”

    Currently, Sri Lanka is playing in the ODI series against Bangladesh where the hosts won the first ODI by 6 wickets at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.
