Indian opening batsman KL Rahul has been named as the vice-captain for the Indian test team for the South African 3 match test series. KL Rahul will replace Rohit Sharma in the vice-captain role who was ruled out of the Test series with a hamstring injury.
KL Rahul Named as Vice Captain for Indian Test Team
Virat Kohli will lead team India in test format where Rohit replaced Ajinkya Rahane as the vice-captain of the Indian Test team earlier this month when the 18-member squad was announced by the BCCI selectors.
But the 34-year-old injured his left hamstring while batting in the nets at the Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai that eventually ruled him out of the entire series. BCCI made it official on their website.

The All-India Senior selection committee has named KL Rahul as vice-captain for the upcoming 3-match Test series against South Africa. KL Rahul replaces Rohit Sharma as vice-captain, who was ruled out of the Test series owing to a hamstring injury.
Rahul has played 40 Tests so far for India since his debut in 2014 and amassed 2321 runs at 35.16 with 6 hundreds and 12 fifties.
Rahul was in good form with the bat in the England Tests earlier this year where he scored 315 runs from 4 matches but did not play the home series against New Zealand due to a muscle strain.
Rohit Sharma Replacement for SA Test Series
Priyank Panchal, who led India A during the just-concluded three-match series, has been named as the replacement player for Rohit Sharma. There is no immediate decision on who will be the vice-captain.
Panchal, the opening batter from Gujarat, scored 120 runs for India A at an average of 40 in three innings with a high score of 96. He has featured in 100 first-class matches and has scored 7011 runs at an average of 45.52 and has got 24 centuries to his name.
