Indian opening duo Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul once again failed to lay a strong foundation for the team India in the fifth test at Sydney. With a four-run lead, India kick-started their second inning with positive notes.
Jaiswal struck four boundaries in the first over from Mitchell Starc and started his second inning in an aggressive manner. While the duo was expected to lead the team from the front, Boland in his second over of the inning dismissed KL Rahul for 13 runs.
Shubman Gill who joined Jasiwal for the second wicket continued the momentum. But Boland in his very next over dismissed Jaiswal for 22 runs and loads pressure over the Indian batting lineup.
Yashasvi Jaiswal ends the series with 391 runs at 43.44 which turned out to be the fourth most by an Indian opening batter in his debut series in Australia behind Sunil Gavaskar (450 runs in 1977/78), Virender Sehwag (464 runs in 2003/04) and Murali Vijay (482 runs in 2014/15).
Following a couple of early dismissals, team India gets under pressure to build a partnership to save the game. Virat Kohli and Gill stand at the crease while India scored 48 runs for 2 wickets loss during the drinks break. With 31 overs left for the day 2 stumps, the duo might be keen to protect the wicket.
