In a recent development, it is reported that KKR is set to release the all-rounder Andre Russell ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. The three times champions of the IPL, are set to retain four players for the 18th season of the tournament.
The release of Andre Russell will be shocking news among the KKR fraternity. He has been a match-winner for the franchise over the years and was one of the top performers in the title-winning season in IPL 2024.
With the bat, he slammed 222 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 185. He also delivered with the ball as KKR won the IPL title for the 3rd time. In 14 games, he picked 19 wickets at 15.53, showcasing his skills in both the department of the game.
According to new IPL 2025 retention rules, each team can retain six players from the existing squad, either via retention or by using the Right to Match (RTM) option.
BCCI has set various retention slabs for the player’s retention. The first retention must be INR 18 crore, the second INR 14 crore, the third INR 11 crore, the fourth INR 18 crore, the fifth INR 14 crore and the uncapped Rs 4 crore but franchises are also allowed to divide the 75cr retention amount among 5 capped players.
According to reports, Sunil Narine will first player in KKR’s retained players list. Rinku Singh and Varun Chakravarthy will be retained in the second and third slots while Harshit Rana will be retained in the uncapped category.
Meanwhile, there is no confirmation on Shreyas Iyer’s and it is reported that the player has been offered a mega deal by another franchise and is seriously considering it.
Though this year’s auction was planned to be hosted outside India, fans can still enjoy the IPL 2025 auction live streaming from their home.
With BCCI announcing October 31 as the deadline for franchises to announce their retained players list, it will be interesting which players will be coming into the auction pool.
