Despite setbacks, Shane Watson and Kevin Pietersen hail Prithvi Shaw’s comeback praising his immense talent, including going unsold in IPL 2025. They urged the young batter to overcome challenges and reclaim his place in Indian cricket.
In a heartfelt message on X, Prithvi Shaw’s natural ability and encouraged him to focus on regaining his form. Meanwhile, Watson echoed this sentiment, highlighting Shaw’s talent and expressing confidence in his ability to overcome setbacks with determination.
Once hailed as a rising star who captained India’s U-19 team to World Cup Victory, Shaw has faced fitness issues and inconsistent performances. His struggle culminated in going unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction, a blow that highlighted his current predicament.
Watson emphasised Shaw’s potential for a strong return, provided he puts in the required effort.
“Some of the greatest sports stories are COMEBACK stories. If Prithvi Shaw has decent people around him who care about his long term success, they’d sit him down, tell him to get off social media & train his absolute backside off in getting super fit.”
“It’ll get him back into the correct path where past success can return. Too talented to throw it all away. Love, KP!,” Pietersen wrote on his X account.

“I completely agree @KP24..Prithvi is such a precocious talent and these are all that is required for him to turn things around and be one of Indian Cricket’s biggest heroes,” Watson replied.
Legendary Australia cricketer and former Indian coach Greg Chappell also extended his support to Prithvi Shaw urging him to move past the setbacks and channel his focus towards making a comeback for India.
Shaw’s domestic season began on a solid knock with a 76-run in the second innings of the Irani Cup. However, he failed to carry that momentum forward, manging only 59 runs across two Ranji Trophy matches before being dropped due to fitness concerns.
The 24 year old batter will aim to turn his fortunes around in the remaining domestic season. With lots of opportunities in SMAT 2024 still ahead, Shaw has the chance to give comeback to prove his talent and preserverance can prevail against adversity.
Pietersen’s suggestion to focus on fitness echoes the reasons behind Shaw’s exclusion from the Ranji Trophy. This highlights the critical role of physical conditioning in Professional cricket. He recommends Shaw to reduce social media use which may hinder Shaw’s focus and performance.
