Dinesh Karthik On KL Rahul’s Bazball Statement: Indian wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik disagrees with KL Rahul over the statement on England’s ‘Bazball’ and said that Team India cannot adapt to the style as the pitch at Chattogram is slow, which makes it difficult for the batters to show their attacking side.
Karthik On KL Rahul’s Bazball Statement
The Indian cricket team was scheduled to play 2 Tests during their Bangladesh tour where the 1st Test will be played on December 14 and 2nd Test on December 22 in Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium and Shere Bangla National Stadium respectively.
In the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma who was ruled out due to a thumb injury, KL Rahul has been appointed as the stand-in captain for the ongoing Test series.
Rahul had addressed the media ahead of the first Test on Tuesday and stated that his side would be having an aggressive approach against Bangladesh as the series’ result would have its consequences on India’s qualification for the World Test Championship final.
“There is a Test championship (final) qualification so we will also have to be aggressive. We know where we stand and what we need to do to qualify for the final,” Rahul had said during the media interaction.
Reacting to this Dinesh Karthik who played 26 Tests with an average of 25.00 says India cannot play the Bazball kind of cricket because right now, it’s not a part of our DNA to do something like that.
“For me, as I said, it is very evident that these are kind of wickets that sometimes end up not producing a result. As the Test match carries on, the wear and tear makes it slow. If the quality of the batsmanship is not great, you will end up seeing batsmen make mistakes.
If your temperament is strong, you won’t need a great technique to stay at the wicket. For starters, India cannot play the Bazball kind of cricket because right now, it’s not a part of our DNA to do something like that,” said Karthik on a discussion with sports website.
“For KL Rahul to come out and say that they will play aggressive cricket basically means that they want to make a match out of it and get a result, knowing that the WTC final is around the corner and these two games become critical.
They want to press the accelerator and push the scoring rate. They couldn’t do it today because the wicket is slow, and you have to bring a different tempo altogether and that will require a few players who bat that way,” he added.
As far as the match is concerned, winning the toss India elected to bat first and scored 404 runs for 10 wickets loss at the end of the inning. The openers KL Rahul and Shubman Gill failed to make their best and returns to the pavilion soon. Following them, the much-expected Virat Kohli too dismissed for just 1 run.
Vice-captain Pujara scored the team’s highest by scoring 90 runs while Shreyas Iyer scored the second-best – 86 runs.
An unimaginable incident saved Shreyas Iyer from walking off the crease during the first inning but during the 1st session of Day 2, Iyer was dismissed for 86 runs. With Ashwin’s contribution, India scored 404 runs.
India strikes earlier during their bowling by dismissing Najmul Hossain Shanto and Yasir Ali at the initial stage of the match. During the Day 2 Tea break, Bangladesh scored 37 runs for 2 wickets loss.
