New Zealand star batter Kane Williamson, who missed the first two tests of the New Zealand tour of India 2024, has been ruled out of the third and final game of the series.
With the victory in the first two games of the series, New Zealand sealed the series victory with the final match to be played in Mumbai between November 1 and 5.
Kane Williamson opted out of the final test against India to ensure his fitness for the upcoming three-match Test series against England. Kane took this decision as a cautious approach to continue his groin injury rehabilitation.
“Kane continues to show good signs but isn’t quite ready to jump on a plane and join us. While things are looking promising, we think the best course of action is for him to stay in New Zealand and focus on the final part of his rehabilitation so he’ll be good to go for England.
The England series is still a month away so taking the cautious approach now will ensure he is ready for the first Test in Christchurch”, Gary Stead, New Zealand’s head coach said.
The final test match of the New Zealand tour of India 2024 will be played between November 1 and 5 in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The hosts will seek to win this game to avoid a whitewash while the visitors will be keen to win the last game to gain a positive move in the WTC 2023-25 points table.
India currently holds the top spot in the WTC points table with 62.82 PCT while New Zealand holds fourth position with 50 PCT.
