Kane Williamson, known as one of the finest and most consistent batters of the generation, has become the first New Zealand batter to complete 9000 test runs and also the third joint fastest to do so having achieved the feat in 103 matches.
Ross Taylor stands second with 7683 runs, while former skipper Stephen Fleming has 7172 runs at third and Brendon McCullum has fourth position with 6453 runs.
He achieved the feat during the 18th over of the 2nd innings of the first test of England’s tour of New Zealand 2024, bowled by Gus Atkinson, as he received a huge round of applause from the crowd.
Australia’s Steve Smith is the fastest batter to achieve the record feat, followed by Brian Lara. Williamson became the third fastest batter alongside Kumar Sangakkar and Younis Khan to achieve the feat in 103 matches. As England continued to dominate the proceedings in the 1st Test, Williamson came to New Zealand’s rescue.
In the 2nd innings, Chris Woakes provided England with a solid start, dismissing both New Zealand openers early. However, Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra steadied the innings with a composed partnership, ensuring no further damage.
Day 03 of the match witnessed a remarkable batting effort from England in the morning session as they posted a huge total of 499 in their first innings.

Williamson’s overall test batting average is approaching 55 placing him favourable among the members of the Fab four. He currently leads Joe Root (50.81), Virat Kohli (48.13) and Steven Smith (56.40).
